The hydrated polymer provides good rheology through colloidal stability and water retention. Pro-Cote products are amphoteric, having both positive and negative charges, which allow for interaction with coating pigments, improving coverage by inducing structure and void volume in the final coating. In addition, the net anionic charge gives good coating stability.

Pro-Cote soy polymers provide improvements in functionality compared to alternative co-binders and thickeners currently used in the industry. Our recommendations are designed to give superior performance in paperboard coatings formulated with any pigment system (clay, calcium carbonate, talc, Ti02), and can be used in size press, precoat and topcoat applications with any applicator type.

Coated Recycled Board (CRB) and Coated Duplex, Pro-Cote provides:
  • excellent coverage of a dark base stock, allowing the use of more economical furnish and optimizing the use of expensive pigments
  • excellent porosity and structuring, providing a good surface for the topcoat
  • improved K&N ink stains and reduced binder migration mottle through controlled coating immobilization and structure
  • improved coverage at minimum coat weights
  • better glueability because of its combination of binding strength and coating microporosity
  • reduced backside linting and blocking due to Pro-Cote’s non-thermoplastic nature
  • uniform surface porosity for ink receptivity.

Coated Bleached Board or Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS), Pro-Cote can be formulated to provide:
  • excellent blade runnability, porosity, and coating holdout in pre-coats; providing an excellent surface for topcoat application.
  • excellent runnability that reduces streaks and surface imperfections in topcoats
  • improved K&N ink stains
  • reduced binder migration mottle due to controlled coating immobilization and structure
  • improved coating profile and coated sheet stiffness at minimum coat weights
  • good glueability resulting from a combination of binding strength and coating microporosity
  • reduced calender hazing
  • uniform surface porosity for ink receptivity

Coated Unbleached Kraft (UBK), Pro-Cote is used for:
  • precoats, good porosity, coverage and coating holdout to provide hiding power and an excellent surface for topcoat application.
  • reduced binder migration to control coating immobilization and structure in the middle and topcoats
  • improved coverage at minimum coat weights
  • improved glueability due to a combination of binding strength and coating microporosity
  • reduced backside linting and blocking due to Pro-Cote’s non-thermoplastic nature
  • controlled structuring to provide a uniform surface porosity for ink receptivity.
